Georgia Southern University is a public, coeducational institution of higher learning in Statesboro, Georgia, U.S., about 50 miles (80 km) northwest of Savannah. It is part of the University System of Georgia.

Georgia Southern was founded in 1906, with instruction beginning two years later. The university was then known as the First District Agricultural and Mechanical School.
